State Considers Removing Piece Of History


WELCOME BACK. TIME MAY BE RUNNING OUT FOR AN HISTORIC THEATER IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO. IT HAS BEEN IN PLACE FOR NEARLY 100 YEARS. WHY THE STATE IS CONSIDERING TO DEMOLISH THE CAPITAL MALL FOUND. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT SCENES ALONG SACRAMENTO’S CAPITAL MALL, THIS DECORATIVE WATER FOUNTAIN INSIDE OF THE ROUNDABOUT THAT OVERLOOKS THE STATE CAPITALS WEST STEPS. IT IS AN ODD ICONIC VIEW. NOW HE IS TRYING TO SAVE IT. THERE WERE SPRAYERS ALL AROUND THE PERIMETER. THE HISTORIC STRUCTURE WAS BUILT IN 1925. TODAY THE BASIN IS DRY. THE NOZZLES COVERED IN COBWEBS. IN FACT, THIS FOUNTAIN HAS NOT WORKED IN MORE THAN A DECADE. SAID PEOPLE EVEN WONDER WHAT IT IS. IDEA HAD NO IDEA THAT IT WAS EVEN A FOUNTAIN. IT WOULD BE BETTER TO HAVE SOMETHING ELSE. AN ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT RELEASED THIS SUMMER, SUGGEST DEMOLISHING THE FOUNTAIN, BUT PRESERVING THE PUBLIC SPACE.
