Saving Search Results

In this final video, we will discuss how to
arrange and save your search results. Once you have found your results, you have a
few different options for saving them. In each record page there’s a bar on the left
with multiple CINAHL tools You can save the record to your computer by
clicking the Save button, but it’s important to
note this will only save the record, not the full text. Once you have hit Save, you can save this
page by copying and pasting the text into a
word document in your computer, or going up to FILE, and then SAVE AS, in your browser’s toolbar above. You can also export each record to a citation
manager such as Refworks or EndNote by
clicking the Export button. From this same column you can also make and
save notes on records, You can also generate citations formatted
according to various major style guides. You also have the option to save and manage
records within CINAHL itself. To do this, be sure that you are signed in to
your EBSChost account. If you are unsure how to do this, you can watch
Video 2 of this series for a full explanation. Once you are logged in, click on the Folder tab
at the top of the page. There, you will see a pre-selected list of folders
that you can save your results to, or you can
create a custom folder by selecting the My Custom, New button. You can give your new folder a name, and nest
it inside an existing folder if you choose. Once done, go back to the search you were
performing. You can save the record you’re in
by clicking on the yellow folder to the right. A pop-up will appear. Here you can select which
folder you want to save it to. From the results page itself, you can save
records by pressing the blue folder icon to the right of the record and choosing a folder to save it in. You can tell if you’ve already saved something
to your account because the folder will be
yellow. If you would like to save the contents of an
entire folder to your computer, you can return to
the Folder page, and select all of the records by
clicking the checkboxes beside them. By clicking the “Save as File” button to the
right, you can save all the records as a single file. Sometimes when performing complex search
strategies, it becomes important not just to save your
search results, but also your search strategy, so you can remember what you’ve searched for
and how you found something. Luckily, CINAHL allows you to do this. When you are ready to save your search
strategy, go up to the search history box at the
top of the results page. Then go up and click the Save
Searches/Alerts button. This will take you to a
page that prompts to give your search history a name and a
description if you like. When ready, press Save. When you want to load a previous search
strategy, just click Retrieve Searches, find the
search you’re looking for, and press Retrieve Saved Search In order to run the
search again, simply press Select All and Refresh Search Results, and then, when they’re loaded, press View
Results. We have reached the end of our video tutorial
series on using CINAHL. This should give you
everything you need to get started searching and saving results in CINAHL. If you have any
