Public hearing Tuesday on whether to impose restaurant tax on food trucks

COUNCIL THIS AFTERNOON. ALSO ON THE AGENDA AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING – THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC HEARING ON WHETHER TO IMPOSE THE CITY’S RESTAURANT TAX ON ‘FOOD TRUCKS.’ RIGHT NOW – FOOD TRUCKS, AND OTHER MOBILE FOOD VENDORS IN OMAHA ARE EXEMPT FROM PAYING THE 2- POINT-5 PERCENT RESTAURANT TAX. HOWEVER – IF THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE PASSES, THAT EXEMPTION WOULD BE REPEALED. IN THE PAST – MAYOR STOTHERT HAS SAID THAT SHE DOES NOT SUPPORT THE RESTAURANT TAX. IT’S NOT CLEAR IF IT WILL REMAIN PART OF HER 2017 BUDGET
