Ancient Aliens: Gobekli Tepe (Season 12, Episode 16) | History

NARRATOR: Sanliurfa,
Turkey, October 1994. While plowing his field,
shepherd Safak Yildiz spots a strangely shaped stone
protruding from the ground. After brushing away the dirt,
he realizes that it may be part of a much larger object. Shortly after contacting the
local museum with his find, he is visited by Klaus
Schmidt from the German Archaeological Institute. HUGH NEWMAN: It wasn’t
until German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt visited the site
and began digging they realized what was really at the site. WILLIAM HENRY: What he
discovered was mind blowing. After discovering the
first t-shaped pillar buried at the site,
he soon found more of these massive structures. NARRATOR: During the intensive
dig, Schmidt and his team begin to unearth dozens
of additional giant, stone monoliths covered
in intricate carvings. Some weighing as
much as 20 tons. PAUL BAHN: The site
of Gobekli Tepe is a series of
circular enclosures, but then in the center
of each enclosure you have two particularly
big, t-shaped pillars of limestone sort
of facing each other. Now many of these pillars have
remarkable carvings on them, wonderful carvings and
bas-reliefs of animals, birds, insects, all
kinds of things. So to fashion those
and carve them and set them up in
these structures was just absolutely amazing. NARRATOR: Archaeologists
estimate that it would have taken a team of 50 men
an entire week to move just one of the
monolithic pillars from the limestone quarry
to the top of the hill where they stand today,
and over 300 hours to carve the bas-reliefs. At this rate, each of
the five stone circles unearthed so far
would have required a full year to be completed. But why such a monumental site
was built in the first place remains a mystery. PAUL BAHN: It’s very
difficult to know what the purpose of something
like Gobekli Tepe could be. And certainly Klaus
Schmidt had not reached any conclusions
except that it’s clearly not a settlement. It’s not a village. There is absolutely
no domestic refuge. Schmidt always hoped
that it was funerary and that there would be
burials underneath the walls or underneath some of
the pillars or so on. But so far, they
have not yet found any human remains at the site. There were no domestic
plants in the site. There are only
wild animal bones. Inevitably in archeology
if we don’t know what something is for we think
of ritual, but really it’s pure speculation. NARRATOR: Intrigued by evidence
that the structure might go back to a Neolithic
period, Klaus Schmidt has the sediment layers
of the site radiocarbon dated. The results indicated that
the stone structures could be as much as 12,000
years old, more than 5,000 years older than mankind’s
first known civilization in Mesopotamia. More than that, it would place
the construction of Gobekli Tepe to a time when
mainstream scholars suggest humans were roaming
the earth as hunter gatherers. PAUL BAHN: Well, the
site of Gobekli Tepe really did send shockwaves
through the whole world of early prehistory because
we’d never before known or imagined even
that simple hunter gatherers could produce
such spectacular monumental structures. Now in archeology,
really since it began, we’ve always assumed that
hunter gatherers were capable of producing wonderful
works of art– rock art, cave art, and things like that. But we never imagined that
they could come together in sufficient numbers to
make monumental constructions like Gobekli Tepe. NARRATOR: But if the currently
accepted timeline for mankind’s advancement is correct, is it
possible that primitive hunter gatherers could have
built such sophisticated, megalithic structures? Ancient astronaut
theorists say, no. And instead, suggest that
Gobekli Tepe was built by the survivors
of a lost society, one that was almost
entirely wiped out by a worldwide cataclysm. And to support their claim,
they point to recent evidence of a catastrophic event, which
many mainstream scientists believe occurred at the
very end of the last ice age, which is believed to have
lasted from roughly 108,000 BC. until nearly 10,000 BC.

  • jihad is arabic for help anagram please come to see simon-c's finale in jerusalem!

  • Hey Iam early

  • Göbeklitepe have led to the suggestion that the settled life had begun as a result of the desire to stay around the temples where the settled life didn't begin with agriculture, built about 12,000 years ago, older than Stonehenge&Pyramids.

  • They are the early Tamils who escaped from lemuaria continent or Kumari continent after the great diluge. The stones had been laid pointing towards the kumari continent on behalf of the people who died in that continent. From this place the word temple has been evolved. Then pulam in Tamil means south direction .then pulam deformed to temple. Plz watch Tamil chintanayalar peravai YouTube channel for logical explanation of gods and languages cultures etc.

  • Absolutly Crazy!

  • They look like landing pads. An the craft would sit on the pillars. An the pillars tell what animals are in the area.

  • First time they said NO

  • Gobekli tepe is Mesopotamian cilvilazation not Turkish or Anatolian

  • Landing site for aliens ? with flora and fauna depicted for that area ! Created by aliens for aliens who may arrive on earth at later date maybe centuries later ! 🙂

  • If our history was so screwed then humans are alien on this planet.

  • Yeah yeah we know "Ancient astronaut theorist say yes"… wait what do you mean NO?!?!?!?

  • Ancient Astronaut theorist say NOOOOOOOO

  • at time 03:15 that i am thinking hindu traditional carvings. that look like our "Vrundavan" or Tulshi plant outside of hindu homes.

  • Is it ever not aliens? 👽

  • At 1:05 the curving looks like a prehistoric animal

  • first time to hear no from ancient astronaut theorist

  • Wht if the people tht built the thing just wanted to do something to build

  • I think it has nothing to do with aliens or

  • My view on this
The carvings on stones of different animals and in an enclosure type set up suggest it could either be a zoo made by ancient civilization or a stock farm by roaming mankind 12000 years ago? It is possible for them to make this structure considering that the world before was rich with natural resources and ancient people have mastered many skills of craft. The pillars are relatively thinner then other culptures of the past. If there is a large group of people it's possible. The pillars may provides as a hold for wild animals that could be large making them hard to escape if their tied up. The T shaped pillars may be made for the birds to stand around like what we see in modern stand for birds as it suggest that before birds evolved today they could be much bigger in size some 12000 years back? Or the T is for them to tie the animals that are in that enclosure for easily accessible from the top?

  • The Atlanteans built Gobekli Tepe because they knew they were dying. The comet that struck the North American ice shelve caused a global catastrophe that was wiping out their entire civilization. They knew then they had to pass on their knowledge to the remaining human tribes of the world. They did so in the megalithic structures that we see around the world today. Our history, our true history, has either been lost to us completely, or is being hidden for some unknown reason.

  • Why are they so slow in excavating this site?

  • imo the pillars are from a time and the stone walls from an other. i guess some of the "first human" of this cycle found the pillars and used it as a skeleton for their building

  • Star Trek fans are always quick to attribute anything unexplainable to creatures from outer space but aren't open to the possibility that humans could have built places like Gobekli Tepe.

  • This is PORTASAR

  • Aight, hold up. ANCIENT ASTRONAUT THEORISTS SAY NO?!?

  • I believe our history is not what we are being told, the powers that be are holding it back from us.!?

  • Whatcha doing now

  • I think its like an altar , a sacred place for ancient people who praise animals as their gods

  • Them der aliens derk uhr durbs

  • Ancient astronaut theorists say

    No!

  • Amazing yes…such an ancient effort of Waring to the future and a grateful relief that the world has become stable

  • Finally! they say no.

  • Never laughed so much! I love it. Best comedy show ever. "Gobekli Tempe is the place where Noah rebuilt the animal population." Hahaha. Great.

  • Wait they said astronauts theorists say no????

  • National Geographic's Genographic Project debunks the ancient astronaut theories of who built Portasar (or in gibberish, Gobekli Tepe). According to National Geographic's DNA results, the temples were built by proto-armenian tribes that had migrated there over 60,000 years ago. Namely, Armenians.

  • The earth is only 6,000 years old

  • Really…….wake up…..history is covered up with lies

  • I dont believe man started as cave men hunter types…maybe a few were banshied from society and became a tribe of their own. I believe mankind was always inteligent yet not one of these societies who built any of the magnificant structures never left any written record or cave drawings or carved stories how any structure was built…not one record of building and stone cutting is found anywhere. Why? is it because there was no permanent way to write stuff with out it deteriorating? Why not carved basic pictures of tools or lifting machines of the day? This type of building would require math, planning, logistics, etc.

  • T shaped stones means to support a structure, to hold big roof like structure, or it may a watch like structure showing creatures at that time ..,,or may be hiding place just like other place found nearby turkey n siriya

  • If this kind of weird stuff didn't happened in the past….we won't be here today with our current technology….its called evolution….maybe Gods, aliens were involve…but mostly it was humans with their brains

  • I thought History channel was with the mainstream…good to see they are aware

  • Preparing humanity for alien invasion. Or fake alien invasion.

  • The first time I ever heard the Ancient Astronaut theorist say "NO" Chalk that on my records.

  • Ancient civilization makes more sense than ancient aliens

  • can we use those stones to build that wall?

  • Gobek means belly button in turkish. Tepe means hill. Starting from name thats given, collect all information circulated in past. You will find why something extra happened there. No stupid theories. If there aliens, ok, proves in studio. If not, well, work and search.

  • By the way schmidtz is married with a Turkish woman as a Turkish person i love him and his works

  • Fascinating

  • 4:19 Ancient astronaut theorist say no!!😆😆

  • Doesn't like at all of those "historical" animations which put old mankind into certain molds. Just causes to build prejudice, if not worse.

  • since the stones can't be explained it's pretty obvious a comet strike on Earth is involved, like everything else they can't explain

  • its the lost city Atlantis the lost city

  • Pull out all the frozen bodies ice age lmao until there’s frozen bodies!!! Just tell the truth already

  • Dinosaurs! DINOSAURS built it I tell you

  • 😀 In hindi Gau means Cow ; gobakli tepe

  • Peace.. there are two civilisation here on top of one another.
That's how it was done when one philosophy/belief system superseded the older one. They built on top of it. The top bits with inscriptions show man's awakening to the understanding for the first time in known evidence that humans were perhaps on top of the food chain.
The same was done at the site of the Sphinx in Egypt and nearly every other find of a civilisation.

  • You’ll never get the full accurate story from the history channel or any msm outlet… Fact

  • To me, these look more like defensive perimeters than temples. The stone "benches" are not suitable for sitting and looking inwards but for standing and looking out over the walls. Just as any military fort has a ramp at a higher level for the sending of projectiles at an attacking force be it spears or stones.

As the ice age rescinded early humans would be channelled up the valleys to the now warmer sites putting them in conflict with humans in that area. The local tribes would find it necessary to control the high ground to defend themselves. The T shapes would be a way of showing off the heads as trophies to their enemies in order to instill fear into an attacking group of early humans. The engravings would be of animals that invoke a natural fear in humans such as snakes, spiders, scorpions. The T forms would also appear to be a land of headless giants to an attacking force that came across the site. The site would be inhabited during times of conflict and would contain fresh water, food and weapons to allow for a siege.

There would always be a need to make the high ground higher. Making it easier to see further, throw spears further and to make it more difficult for an enemy to attack up hill. Thus the need to fill in the older sites and construct newer ones on top.

As for being a temple of a religious nature. May be all religions stem from a need for mutual defense.

  • Göbekli Tepe – THE KILLER GODS AND THEIR MURDEROUS FOLLOWERS – THOUSANDS OF SKULL FRAGMENTS WERE FOUND AROUND THE 'T' PILLARS AND BUTCHERED HUMAN AND ANIMAL BONES WERE FOUND TOGETHER IN NEARBY PITS. MANY DISPLAYED MARKINGS OF CANNIBALISTIC ACTIVITIES. THIS WAS THE REASON THE ENTIRE SITE WAS BURIED. TO HONOR THOSE KILLED WHILE CLOSING FOREVER THE DESECRATED SITE. A HUGE AMOUNT OF LABOR WAS REQUIRED TO BURY THE SITE, POSSIBLY MORE THAN WAS REQUIRED TO BUILD IT. MOST OF THE ANIMALS DEPICTED ARE CONNECTED TO SET IN KEMITIC MYTHOLOGY. NOTE THE 'DEATH BAGS' OF THE ANUNNAKI -AK | Pillar 43 with a depiction of a headless man. CHECK MY GOBEKLI TEPE BOARD FOR LINKS TO KLAUS SCHMIDT'S ARCHAEOLOGICAL REPORT. INFORMATION ABOUT WHO REALLY FOUNDED GOBEKLI TEPE, WHO INVADED AND ATE THEM AND WHO BURIED THE INFAMOUS SITE. • The earth has been recycled numerous times most likely. We have probably been as advanced as we are today but has been wiped out. Than human civilization started back up leaving us only to find these ancient civilizations. At one point in time there were probably huge buildings and maybe space stations already like there are today.

  • Jews claim that the area at gobeklitepe is part of “greater Israel”, which is why Israel supports kurdish terrorgroups trying to destabilize the area. There r also rumours that zionists together with french or british occupation forces tried to destroy and/or bury any signs of Göbeklitepe in 1918-1920 before the occupiers were defeated.

  • Around the 1;00 mark, them platforms could have been platforms, for the star-gazers to watch the night sky, for inbound meteors, or comets, that could be lifethreatning. The reasons why they had these (or similar) structures over the whole planet, is like having a telescope only on one continent. You need MANY structures, to watch for threats. Or you could be looking in the wrong section of sky. (yes, I do believe we had a civilisation able to travel globally). Also, the animals, that are carved on the stones, are reminiscent of animals in the zodiac. Some are excttint, but most, are not. I feel, the "astrologer" of the time, would line up 2 grooves (in the stone tops, and mark which star was further or closer or other measurement, that would tell them planet 9 was making another pass, that autumn.
Its just an idea, but, I do believe, this is what the monoliths around the world, were for. There wouldn't be any need for the prescice nature of where they were set, and the animals? That's a total giveaway.

  • Sure sounds like thier is a lot of disbelievers out thier in utubeland

  • Ancient astronaut theorists say no!!!!!!!!!!! Heck no!!!!!

  • Ancient astronaut theorist say no

    (ノ`Д´)ノ彡┻━┻

  • I can't believe my ears.I thought the word 'no' wasn't there in the dictionary of ancient astronaut theorists.

  • What if these of the work of some nephilim tribe ?

  • 7000,years before Stonehenge..

  • 7000,years before Stonehenge..

  • Thought it was buried to preserve it from the coming cataclysm? Otherwise those slabs wouldn't be standing.

  • So suffice it to say if you're going to engage in archeology you'd better have your Schmidt together. Can ya dig it ?

  • modern astronutt says LOL

  • Human evolution is a lot more complex that we have been to led to believe.

  • Maybe they made it just to be a tourist site in the old days

  • I would like to say after seeing so many videos of this, is that to me it reminds me of a modern zoo. The circular enclosures could be where the animals were put on View. People would walk above the enclosures and look at the animals. The T shaped monoliths could be stylized structures, again like you see at a modern zoo.

  • Radio carbon dating is not accurate . Your welcome

  • OMG It actually happened! Ancient astronaut theorists say NO!!! 😵😲🤪

  • This maybe a library of ancient people

  • With my respects . This ancient site was embraced by a zoo. Or covert to tame and domesticate wild animals. The fees show your income.

  • ANCIENT AUSTRAUNAUT THEORISTS SAY NO???

  • Pure speculation, that's right. same as every episode. No evidence just speculation.

  • I visited there last summer. Fascinating!

  • They always say yes lol

  • They finally said no lol

  • For the first time they said "NOOO…… "

  • site of celebration of marriage

  • The naming of places in the ancient world was a serious affair, particularly with regard to temples. A name enshrined the purpose for which the site was intended, or reflected a truth about its history. Thus, understanding the real name of Göbekli Tepe offers the greatest clue as to why people of a forgotten era created a monument that is both out of place and out of time.
Its ancient Armenian, and probably oldest name is Portasar, and it breaks down into two syllables: port (navel or umbilical cord), identifies the site as a Navel of the Earth, a seeding place where the knowledge of the gods was first deposited. Where such epicenters exist throughout the world, wisdom spread across the land like ripples, touching the uncivilized and the brute and elevating the potential of humankind.
The second syllable asar is revelatory, for it is none other than the original name of Osiris , primary Egyptian deity and lord of the Otherworld. It can be said, then, that this hill is the Umbilical Cord of Osiris
